Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday laid the foundation stone for Naduar constituency's first-ever co-district commissioner’s office. The state-of-the-art, four-storey building will be developed at a cost of Rs 20 crore.

In a significant step toward decentralized governance and improved administrative efficiency, Naduar in Sonitpur district has become the first location in Assam to host a Co-District Commissioner’s Office. The initiative, approved by the Assam Cabinet, aims to enhance public service delivery and ensure faster resolution of local administrative issues.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma emphasized the importance of co-districts in reshaping the state’s governance framework. He highlighted how the establishment of sub-districts has resulted in improved accessibility to government services, reduced bureaucratic delays, and increased administrative responsiveness.

“The creation of co-districts has brought immense administrative benefits to the people of Assam. Naduar will now experience the same ease and efficiency in governance as cities,” Sarma stated, reaffirming the government’s commitment to empowering local governance.

The Co-District Commissioner’s Office in Naduar will function as an extension of the district administration, enabling quicker processing of documents, grievance redressal, and direct engagement between officials and residents. It is expected to particularly benefit citizens by reducing the need to travel long distances to the district headquarters for essential services such as land revenue matters, certificates, and other administrative approvals.

Officials believe that this initiative will serve as a model for future administrative reforms, ensuring that governance remains efficient, transparent, and people-centric. Plans are already underway to establish more such offices in other regions of Assam to further strengthen local governance structures.

With this move, Naduar is set to witness a new era of governance, making public services more accessible and efficient, ultimately improving the overall quality of life for its residents.
