PM Modi Arrives in Thailand for Sixth BIMSTEC Summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in Thailand on Thursday, April 3, 2025, for a two-day official visit to participate in the sixth BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) Summit. Upon arrival, he was received with a warm welcome by Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Suriya Jungrungreangkit.

During the summit, PM Modi is expected to engage in high-level discussions with leaders from BIMSTEC member nations, including Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Thailand. The agenda will focus on strengthening regional cooperation in trade, connectivity, security, and sustainable development. Enhancing economic ties, counterterrorism efforts, and disaster resilience are also key topics on the table.

Apart from attending the summit, PM Modi is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with key regional leaders to discuss mutual interests and foster deeper diplomatic and economic ties. India’s commitment to enhancing regional connectivity and promoting economic collaboration is likely to be a central theme in his address at the summit.

The visit underscores India’s strategic focus on strengthening partnerships with its neighboring countries, reinforcing BIMSTEC as a crucial platform for regional growth and cooperation.
