Jorhat gets Rs 1,300-Cr infrastructure push; historic jail to turn museum

Jorhat is set for a ₹1,300-crore infrastructure boost, with major projects aimed at transforming the city's development landscape. As part of this initiative, the historic Jorhat Central Jail will be converted into a museum, preserving its legacy and cultural significance.

The comprehensive infrastructure push includes road expansions, improved urban facilities, and enhanced civic amenities, ensuring a significant uplift in Jorhat’s infrastructure. The transformation of the historic jail into a museum aims to highlight its historical importance while contributing to tourism and heritage conservation in Assam.

During his one-day visit to Jorhat, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for multiple landmark projects totaling ₹1,300 crore. Among the key announcements was the construction of a ₹180-crore Freedom Struggle Memorial Museum at the historic Jorhat Central Jail, preserving its legacy and honoring the region's rich history.
