The Assam-Arunachal Pradesh road network is set for a major upgrade with the approval of the NH-115 upgradation project under the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) mode. This initiative aims to enhance connectivity between the two states, improving transportation infrastructure and boosting regional development.

The Government of India has approved the upgradation of NH-115 from a 2-lane road to a 2-lane highway with paved shoulders, significantly improving road connectivity between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

The project covers a 10.437 km stretch, extending from Islampur (end of Dhola-Sadiya bridge approach) to the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh Border Outpost at Shantipur in Tinsukia District, Assam. It will be executed under the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) mode, with financial sanction from the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways.

The total approved budget stands at ₹50.43 crore, which includes agency charges and other associated costs. The Chief Engineer (NH), PWD, Assam, had initially proposed the project on February 5, 2025, leading to its final approval.

For the financial year 2024-25, ₹48.80 crore has been allocated for pre-construction activities, with the remaining funds planned for phased expenditure in subsequent years. This strategic infrastructure boost is expected to enhance connectivity, improve transport efficiency, and drive economic development in the region.

The NH-115 upgradation project is set for phased completion by 2025-26, aiming to enhance road connectivity and infrastructure development between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

The total project cost remains at ₹50.43 crore, with ₹1.17 crore allocated for the maintenance phase, scheduled from 2026 to 2029. The financial expenditure is debitable to NH(O)-NE under Demand No. 86 of the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways for the 2024-25 financial year.

Authorities have emphasized that this project will improve road safety, streamline transportation, and boost regional economic activities. The upgradation will be executed as per the work sanction letter and technical specifications, ensuring adherence to quality and safety standards.
