Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Muhammad Yunus, chief advisor of Bangladesh's interim government, on the sidelines of the BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok. This marks their first meeting since Nobel laureate Yunus assumed leadership in Bangladesh following the ouster of Sheikh Hasina’s government in August last year.
The meeting holds significance amid Dhaka’s growing ties with Beijing, a development closely monitored by Delhi.
India-Bangladesh relations have cooled since the Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League was overthrown after a nationwide movement, leading to the establishment of an interim government. The former Prime Minister fled to India. In the months following the transition, India raised concerns over reports of attacks on minorities in Bangladesh, but Dhaka has maintained that "Bangladesh's minorities are Bangladesh's issue."
