Russia, China Slam US ‘Typhon’ Missile Deployment in Japan

Russia and China have strongly warned Japan over allowing the US to deploy “Typhon” intermediate-range missiles during joint drills in September. Moscow called the move destabilising, accusing Japan of accelerating militarisation and warning of “military-technical measures” if deployment proceeds. Russia said the missiles pose a direct threat near its borders. China also condemned the move, urging Japan to remember its history, act cautiously, and avoid undermining regional trust. Beijing urged Washington to prioritize peace over militarization. The Typhon, first deployed in the Philippines in 2024, has a 480km range and will be stationed at Iwakuni base in Honshu.
