Union Home Minister Amit Shah, at Golap Borbora’s birth centenary on August 29, hailed Assam’s first non-Congress Chief Minister for ushering in a major political shift in 1978. He praised Borbora’s sacrifices during the Emergency, noting his 19-month imprisonment as the first to be jailed and last to be freed.
