Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said Bengali-speaking Hindus have been “most comfortable” in the state during the BJP’s 10-year rule, crediting his government for addressing their issues like restoring Aadhaar cards and halting new citizenship cases. He highlighted efforts to stop illegal Bangladeshi infiltration, with many middlemen, including Hindus, arrested for aiding crossings. Sarma stressed that religious identity outweighs linguistic divisions, dismissing TMC MP Sushmita Dev’s criticism as divisive. He asserted that BJP and PM Modi give due importance to the Bengali language, citing its recognition as a Classical Language, while distancing himself from Amit Malviya’s remarks.
