The Ministry of Tribal Affairs launched the beta version of ‘Adi Vaani’, an AI-based translation app developed by IIT-Delhi with partner institutes to preserve and translate tribal languages. India has 461 tribal languages, many endangered, and the app will initially support Bhili, Gondi, Santali, and Mundari, later adding Kui and Garo. Over 250 tribal speakers, educators, and community leaders contributed dictionaries, folklore, and translations to train the model. Integrated with tribal language primers, the app aims to aid grassroots leadership, education, and government schemes. It will be available on Google Play Store, enhancing access to learning and preserving tribal heritage.
