SCO Summit: Opposition Warns Against Pakistan-China ‘Jugalbandi’

At the SCO Summit, Congress leaders voiced differing views on India’s China policy. Jairam Ramesh accused PM Modi of “kowtowing” to Beijing amid a Pakistan-China “jugalbandi.” Shashi Tharoor supported Modi’s talks with Xi, calling them necessary to restore balance after setbacks like Operation Sindoor and U.S. tariffs, stressing multi-alignment with China, Russia, and eventually the U.S. Salman Khurshid and Manish Tewari warned against a “knee-jerk” foreign policy, citing U.S. turbulence and China’s past actions, urging careful recalibration. Khurshid also questioned the government’s silence on strained U.S. ties and Galwan, while Tharoor maintained India must safeguard national interests.
