The Meghalaya High Court has extended its earlier directive allowing applicants awaiting Aadhaar cards to use alternative identification documents. A division bench of Chief Justice Indra Prasanna Mukerji and Justice Wanlura Diengdoh clarified that the order applies to those who have applied but not yet received their Aadhaar. The ruling came during a PIL filed by activist Greneth M. Sangma. The court noted that its interim order of July 21, 2025, remains in effect, ensuring authorities must accept alternative IDs until Aadhaar is issued. The UIDAI opposed the petition through an affidavit. The next hearing is on September 17.
