The Sarusajai Sports Complex has been officially renamed the Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex in honor of Assam’s first Arjuna Awardee and legendary athlete Bhogeswar Baruah. Formerly known as the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium, the renaming is a landmark tribute recognizing Baruah’s role in placing Assam on India’s sporting map. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will soon inaugurate the stadium’s main gate under its new name. The announcement was made during State Sports Day celebrations, attended by Baruah, state dignitaries, athletes, and sports enthusiasts. The decision, approved in a May 28 cabinet meeting, highlights the government’s commitment to honoring sporting icons.
