Microsoft is reportedly testing a new feature in Windows 11 that would allow taskbar icons to resize dynamically as more applications are opened. According to The Verge, this macOS-like functionality is currently available for testing under the latest Insider Preview Beta.
With this update, taskbar icons could either shrink automatically as users open more apps or remain at a smaller size permanently based on user preference. The feature aims to improve taskbar organization and optimize space for multitasking.
Beta testers can access this option by navigating to Settings > Taskbar > Taskbar behaviors, where they can choose from three modes:
Always – Icons remain small at all times.
Never – Icons retain their default size.
When taskbar is full – Icons shrink only when space is limited.
If testing proves successful, this feature could become a part of future Windows 11 updates, offering users enhanced customization and efficiency.
