In Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, a female teacher at Khandadeula government upper primary school was suspended for allegedly beating 31 students for not touching her feet after morning prayers. The incident involved students from Classes 6, 7, and 8. Villagers reported that the teacher assaulted the students in their classrooms, prompting parents to rush to the school and demand action. Following a complaint, the local education department conducted an inquiry, interviewing the students and confirming the teacher’s misconduct. Based on the inquiry report, the teacher was suspended. Officials emphasized that corporal punishment is banned and steps will be taken to prevent such incidents in other schools.
