On September 16, heavy rains in Guwahati disrupted normal life, submerging areas like Anil Nagar, Nabin Nagar, and Beltola Survey within minutes. Roads in Hatigaon, Zoo Road, Rukminigaon, and Ambari became waterlogged, hindering vehicular movement, while train services at Chandmari faced delays. Residents waded through waist-deep water to reach workplaces and schools, and citywide traffic snarls lasted for hours. The downpour exposed the city’s weak drainage system and chronic waterlogging issues. With storms reported across Assam, the state government issued a safety advisory urging people to stay indoors unless necessary, emphasizing public safety and cooperation.
