Assam Bars Shyamkanu Mahanta from State Events, Ends Financial Associations

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has imposed a complete ban on Shyamkanu Mahanta and his associated organisations from conducting any events in the state, also cutting financial ties, in response to public outrage over singer Zubeen Garg’s tragic death in Singapore. Multiple FIRs have been filed against Mahanta and Garg’s manager Sidharth Sarma after the yacht incident. Mahanta’s claims of Garg traveling with local community members failed to satisfy demands for accountability. Garg was laid to rest with full state honours in Kamarkuchi, with officials, celebrities, and citizens paying respects amid ceremonial rituals and tributes.
