The Assam government announced that ashes of legendary singer Zubeen Garg will be distributed to organisations and individuals via an online application system, managed by the Cultural Department. Education and Cultural Affairs Minister Ranoj Pegu stated that a simple portal will streamline requests, prioritising institutions first, followed by individual applicants. Garg, who passed away on September 19 in Singapore, was cremated with full state honours at Kamarkuchi, where a permanent memorial and security measures are being established. A portion of his ashes will also go to Jorhat for rituals and a memorial, allowing people to honour the cultural icon, Assam’s “Son.”
