At the G20 Foreign Ministers’ meeting in New York, India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar criticized double standards in global policies, citing the US 25% “Russian penalty” tariff. He stressed that threatening development cannot foster peace, noting conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza impact energy, food, and fertilizer security, especially for the Global South. Jaishankar highlighted the role of countries capable of engaging both sides to achieve and maintain peace, condemned terrorism as a persistent threat to development, and called for reforms in multilateralism. He urged dialogue, diplomacy, and stronger economic and energy security to stabilize the volatile international situation.
