On October 8, Ri Bhoi District Police in Meghalaya fined 2,500 vehicle owners for various traffic violations, collecting a total of Rs 8 lakh. Offences included not wearing helmets or seat belts, driving without valid documents, using wrong lanes, overspeeding, driving under alcohol influence, and illegal vehicle modifications. The enforcement drive ran from 7 pm Tuesday to Wednesday morning, prompted by a recent rise in road accidents.
