CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Hails Bodo Community’s Cultural Legacy at 32nd All Bathou Mahasabha Conference

At the 32nd Annual Conference of the Dularai Bathou Goutham (All Bathou Mahasabha) held in Pathalikuchi, Tamulpur, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted the invaluable role of the Bodo community in preserving and enriching Assam’s cultural heritage.

Praising the Bodo people’s unique traditions, religious rituals, and age-old customs, CM Sarma described them as a vital part of Assam’s diverse and inclusive cultural landscape. He lauded the All Bathou Mahasabha for its pivotal role in nurturing the religious and cultural identity of the Bodo community since its founding on May 15, 1992, by visionaries Rupnath Basumatary and Baneswar Basumatary.

Paying tribute to the organization’s founders, the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of safeguarding indigenous traditions and reiterated the state government’s commitment to preserving these cultural treasures. “Recognition, preservation, and structured promotion of our indigenous faith and customs remain a top priority for the government,” he said.

In line with this commitment, the Assam government has established the Department of Indigenous and Tribal Faith and Culture to actively support and promote tribal religious practices.

CM Sarma also announced that financial assistance had already been provided to 200 Bathou Thansalis over the past two years, with plans to support an additional 500 sites. Furthermore, he allocated ₹15 crore for the development of three major Bathou Thansalis and Heritage Centres at Goreswar, Chirang, and either Ghoramara or Tezpur.

Reinforcing the state’s cultural outreach, he also revealed plans to construct a Namghar dedicated to Bathou tradition at the upcoming Assam Bhawan in New Delhi to promote broader awareness of Bodo faith and heritage.

The conference was graced by several dignitaries, including Rajya Sabha MP Rwngwra Narzary and other community leaders.
