The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), with RBI, launched biometric and wearable glass authentication for UPI transactions at Global Fintech Fest 2025 in Mumbai, enhancing security, privacy, and ease. Users can authenticate payments via Aadhaar-based face or fingerprint recognition, potentially replacing traditional UPI PINs. Wearable smart glasses enable hands-free small-value transactions with voice commands and QR scans. Multi-signatory UPI accounts allow joint approvals for family or business accounts. On-device biometric verification ensures sensitive data remains private. The system, optional for users, simplifies onboarding, benefits rural and senior users, and strengthens UPI’s role in India’s digital and cashless economy.
