Mizoram plans a 2,400 MW pumped storage hydroelectric project in Hnahthial district to enhance local power supply and move toward energy self-reliance, announced by CM Lalduhoma on October 10 at the Mizo Students' Union conference. The plant, across Darzo Nallah of the Tuipui River, will feature eight 300 MW units in a closed-loop on-stream design, generating about 4,993.20 million units annually with 95% availability. Estimated at ₹13,947.50 crore, 10% funding comes from the Centre under GBS, with an additional ₹285 crore for a 132 kV line. The project aims to reduce Mizoram’s ₹400 crore annual electricity imports.
