The Government of Meghalaya has signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NorthEast United FC (NEUFC) to make Shillong the 'Football Capital of India.' This agreement will last from 2025 to 2028. The state's Tourism and Sports departments, along with the club, plan to develop football by offering training camps, coaching programs, and grassroots initiatives. Chief Minister Conrad Sangma mentioned that the goal is to create opportunities for youth, boost tourism, and generate jobs. NEUFC owner John Abraham praised the partnership as an important move for community-level football development in the region.
