Former Sinn Féin president Gerry Adams is among a number of authors whose works may have been used by tech giant Meta to train its latest artificial intelligence (AI) model.

Mr. Adams stated that his books were used "without his permission" and confirmed that the issue is now being handled by his solicitor.

An investigation by The Atlantic revealed that Meta may have utilized millions of pirated books and academic papers—sourced through the shadow library LibGen (Library Genesis)—to train its generative AI model, known as LLaMA.

In response, a Meta spokesperson said: “We respect third-party intellectual property rights and believe our use of publicly available information to train AI models is consistent with existing law.”
