Guwahati Tragedy: Dumper Truck Kills Three, Triggers Public Outrage and Road Blockade

A tragic accident in Guwahati’s Lalmati area on the evening of April 9 claimed the lives of three individuals riding a scooter, who were fatally struck by a speeding dumper truck. According to initial reports, all three victims died on the spot. Their identities have not yet been officially confirmed.

The horrific incident sparked widespread anger among local residents, who gathered in large numbers at the site, blocking the road and bringing traffic to a standstill on both sides of the highway.

Tensions further escalated after eyewitnesses and locals accused police personnel of accepting a bribe and allowing the dumper truck to proceed, despite the vehicle allegedly having prior traffic violations. This claim intensified the protest, with some agitators attempting to torch the dumper. However, authorities managed to intervene before any further escalation.

The situation prompted immediate intervention by senior officials, including the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), and teams from Hatigaon and Basistha Police Stations. Additional forces from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were also deployed to manage the unrest and restore order.

One person, identified as Bhaben Das, sustained injuries in the accident and is currently undergoing treatment. His condition is reported to be stable.

The driver of the dumper truck has been taken into custody, and an investigation is underway. Meanwhile, the atmosphere remains tense, with protestors continuing to demand justice for the victims and accountability from the authorities.
