The CIA has launched a Chinese-language social media campaign urging Chinese government officials to defect and share secrets with the U.S. Two fictional videos depict disillusioned CCP officials seeking to protect their families amid internal purges. The videos, shared on platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and Telegram, offer guidance on securely contacting the CIA, including via the Tor browser. CIA Director John Ratcliffe emphasized the agency’s role in recruiting assets to gather intelligence. Chinese dissident Desmond Shum called the campaign the CIA’s most aggressive public move against China, likely to provoke strong reactions from the CCP and President Xi Jinping.
