Voting has begun for the first phase of Assam's panchayat elections in 14 districts, with high voter turnout and long queues reported at polling stations. Over 1.20 lakh polling personnel and security forces have been deployed to ensure a fair election. More than 1.80 crore voters are eligible across 25,007 stations, with the second phase scheduled for May 7. The BJP-led NDA has already secured 37 Zila Parishad and 288 Anchalik Panchayat seats unopposed. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed confidence in the NDA's success, calling it a reflection of public trust in the party.
