Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura have committed to providing tap water to all rural households by March 2026. Assam has already connected 81.32% of its rural households, with 13.49 lakh remaining to be completed by next year. Manipur, Meghalaya, and Nagaland have similar progress, with most households receiving tap water. Challenges such as long project timelines, groundwater issues, terrain difficulties, and technical capabilities have delayed the mission. Launched in 2019, the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) aims to provide tap water to rural households, with 79.81% of rural families now having access to potable water.
