Assam's Cabinet has approved the Assam Thermal Power Generation Product Promotion Policy 2025 to address the state's rising energy demand, expected to reach 5,000 MW by 2032. The policy offers free land, water, and road infrastructure to companies setting up thermal plants. The state will buy electricity from these plants and sell surplus power to neighboring states or countries. The government will also invest up to 27% equity in power plants. The policy aims to establish Assam as a regional thermal power hub, with the state focusing on coal-based plants, given insufficient local coal reserves.
