DoorDash, the popular US-based food delivery app, has agreed to acquire its British rival Deliveroo for £2.9 billion (USD 3.9 billion) in cash, aiming to expand its reach across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. DoorDash will pay 180 pence per share—29% above Deliveroo’s last closing price. This marks DoorDash’s second major global acquisition after buying Wolt Enterprises in 2022. With the acquisition, DoorDash will now operate in over 40 markets. Deliveroo, active in nine countries including the UK and Ireland, generated 59% of its 2023 revenue from those two markets. The move follows Prosus’s recent €4.1 billion takeover of Just Eat.
