India launched “Operation Sindoor,” targeting nine sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir following a deadly attack on Indian tourists that New Delhi blamed on Islamabad. India claimed the strikes were aimed at terrorist infrastructure and were “focused, measured, and non-escalatory.” Pakistan reported 26 deaths and 46 injuries, retaliating by striking Indian military targets and allegedly downing five Indian aircraft and capturing soldiers. Shelling resumed along the Line of Control. Indian missiles also struck cities like Muzaffarabad, Kotli, and Bahawalpur, hitting civilian areas including mosques, killing a child and injuring civilians, intensifying tensions between the nuclear-armed neighbors.
