Fourteen 'civil defence districts' in Assam will conduct a nationwide mock drill at 4 PM today, May 7, as directed by the central government. These districts, designated based on strategic infrastructure like refineries or cantonments, are different from regular administrative districts. The exercise, led by Assam Police’s Home Guard and Civil Defence, will include agencies like fire services, disaster management, BSNL, DIPR, and possibly the Indian Army. The drill aims to test air raid warnings, communication systems, evacuation plans, and civilian preparedness amid rising India-Pakistan tensions following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people.
