The Assam government plans to establish three dedicated pet care hospitals in Birubari (Guwahati), Khanikar (Dibrugarh), and Bokakhat by the end of the year. These hospitals will feature specialists in surgery, medicine, pathology, and gynaecology, and offer modern diagnostic tools like sonography, X-rays, and blood analysers. Additionally, five new veterinary hospitals will be built across districts. While pet owners welcome the initiative, they stress the importance of affordability, staffing, and modern equipment. Activists also emphasize the need for public-private partnerships and improved animal welfare laws to support these efforts.
