The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the establishment of a new brownfield ammonia-urea plant in Namrup, Assam, with an investment of ₹10,601.40 crore. Proposed by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, the project is aimed at enhancing domestic urea production, reducing dependency on imports, and ensuring a stable supply of fertilizers for farmers.
As part of the initiative, National Fertilizers Limited (NFL) will play a key role in the project's execution. The plant is expected to significantly benefit the northeastern states by strengthening agricultural productivity and fostering economic growth. Additionally, it will generate employment opportunities, both directly and indirectly, contributing to regional development.
