Tata's semiconductor plant in Assam is set to begin chip production in 2026.

The Union Minister stated that the "Made in Assam" semiconductor chips will be utilized in the automobile industries of major global markets, including Japan, the United States, and Germany.

This development underscores India’s growing presence in the global semiconductor supply chain and highlights Assam's emergence as a key player in advanced manufacturing. By supplying high-quality chips to leading automotive industries, the plant will contribute to technological advancements in electric vehicles, autonomous driving, and smart mobility solutions. Additionally, this initiative is expected to generate employment, attract further investments in the region, and strengthen India's position as a reliable semiconductor producer on the world stage.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that the semiconductor plant being developed by Tata Electronics in Assam will commence production of “Made in India” chips in 2026. These chips will be supplied to various countries, catering primarily to the automobile and telecom industries.

The project marks a significant milestone in India's semiconductor manufacturing ambitions, reducing reliance on imports and strengthening the country’s position in the global chip supply chain. By producing high-quality semiconductors domestically, the plant is expected to boost the local economy, create numerous job opportunities, and support India’s vision of becoming a hub for advanced electronics manufacturing.
