The Railway Ministry has approved the final location survey for a new railway line in Sikkim, connecting Melli to Dentam via Jorethang and Legship, at a cost of Rs 2.25 crore. The survey, to be carried out by Northeast Frontier Railway, will help expand rail connectivity to southern and western Sikkim. The proposed 75 km line will bridge infrastructure gaps and link remote towns like Dentam with the national railway network. This line is part of the Sivok-Rangpo railway extension, expected to be operational by 2027. The project aims to boost economic growth, tourism, and employment in the region.
