Kamalpur Nagar Panchayat in Tripura's Dhalai district has introduced eco-friendly PBAT bags, a biodegradable and compostable alternative to single-use plastic, under the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban. These CIPET-certified bags decompose within 180 days, unlike conventional plastic that lasts centuries. Priced affordably, they are being promoted among vendors and consumers. Alongside distribution, awareness campaigns are educating locals on plastic pollution and sustainable practices. The initiative aligns with India’s broader environmental strategy, emphasizing community involvement and the Recycle, Reuse, and Recovery model. Officials hope Kamalpur’s success inspires similar efforts nationwide to combat plastic waste and promote long-term sustainability.
