Assam Assembly to Convene Special Session to Rename Dibrugarh Airport After Bhupen Hazarika

The Assam Assembly will hold a one-day special session on June 9, 2025, to pass a proposal to rename Dibrugarh airport after legendary musician Bhupen Hazarika, as part of his birth centenary celebrations. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced this via his official X handle, citing an order issued by Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya under Article 174(1) of the Constitution. The state Cabinet had earlier approved the renaming. Additionally, the Cabinet has sanctioned the Assam Tea Workers' Financial Assistance Scheme, 2025, to honor tea garden workers during the 200th year of the state's tea industry.
