A Florida court has ordered former Mexican security chief Genaro Garcia Luna to pay over $748 million to Mexico for his role in corruption and embezzlement. Garcia Luna, serving a 38-year sentence in the U.S. for accepting bribes from the Sinaloa cartel, was found to have laundered millions through fraudulent government contracts and lavish spending. His wife was also ordered to pay $1.7 billion, bringing the total judgment to nearly $2.4 billion. The Mexican government accused the couple of hiding stolen funds in places like Barbados and the U.S. Garcia Luna is the highest-ranking Mexican official convicted in the U.S.
