Sikkim Group Condemns Army for Scaling Sacred Khangchen Dzongna

The Sikkim Bhutia Lepcha Apex Committee (SIBLAC) condemned the Indian Army’s recent climb of Mount Khangchen Dzongna, a sacred peak for the Bhutia and Lepcha communities. The group stated the climb violated religious sentiments and state bans protecting the mountain. Despite legal restrictions, the army’s expedition caused public outrage and grief. SIBLAC demanded an explanation from the state’s Ecclesiastical Department and urged stronger measures to prevent such breaches. They emphasized the mountain’s spiritual importance and called on civilian and military bodies to respect Sikkim’s cultural heritage and sacred sites to preserve indigenous identity.
