Nagaland to Implement Early Warning System to Strengthen Disaster Preparedness
Nagaland is set to introduce an Early Warning System (EWS) aimed at enhancing disaster preparedness and providing timely alerts for natural calamities.
The move follows a request by Rajya Sabha MP Phangnon Konyak, which received prompt support from Union Minister of State Dr. Jitendra Singh.
The EWS will issue critical warnings for disasters such as earthquakes, extreme weather events including heatwaves and heavy rainfall, lightning strikes, landslides, and more. Given Nagaland's vulnerability to such hazards, the system is expected to significantly improve emergency response and help safeguard lives and property.
Expressing gratitude, Phangnon Konyak lauded Dr. Singh's swift action, stressing the system’s importance in protecting the people of Nagaland from the increasing risks of natural disasters.
The initiative aims to bolster early detection, strengthen mitigation efforts, and minimize the impact of calamities in the state.
