An international medical charity, Doctors Without Borders (MSF), has warned of a looming health catastrophe among South Sudanese refugees in Ethiopia due to rising cholera cases and widespread malnutrition in overcrowded camps near the border. Renewed violence in South Sudan, involving clashes between President Salva Kiir’s and Vice President Riek Machar’s forces, has driven 35,000 to 85,000 refugees to the Ethiopian town of Mattar. MSF reports treating over 1,200 cholera patients and highlights severe malnutrition and malaria prevalence. The UN has also warned of worsening conflict and humanitarian conditions, urging immediate de-escalation and increased aid access.
