According to the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), Greenko, Adani Green, and JSW Energy will develop nearly two-thirds of India’s planned 51 GW pumped storage hydropower capacity by 2032. Over 57% of this capacity will be in Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra. Pumped storage, combined with battery energy storage, is crucial for balancing India’s power grid amid rising renewable energy integration. Currently, India has less than 5 GW of pumped storage, but plans to expand it more than tenfold to 51.24 GW by 2032 across 39 projects. Greenko will develop 13.2 GW, Adani Green 11.4 GW, and JSW Energy 7.7 GW of this capacity.
