Amid Air India suspension, Assam CM promises enhanced flight connectivity to Silchar

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu to discuss boosting air connectivity and infrastructure in Northeast India. Key highlights include plans to begin work on a greenfield airport in Silchar this year and expand Rupsi Airport in western Assam. New flight routes will connect Jorhat, Dibrugarh, and Silchar to more Indian cities, enhancing regional access. The CM stressed strengthening the UDAN scheme to enable more first-time fliers from remote areas. This comes amid Air India’s suspension of flights in Silchar, raising connectivity concerns, with political leaders urging quick resolution.
