Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged NDA-ruled states to replicate Assam's successful model in combating child marriage. This follows Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s presentation at the Chief Ministers’ Conclave in Delhi, where Assam’s efforts were widely praised. The state’s crackdown, launched in 2022, combines legal action with awareness campaigns, resulting in an 81% drop in child marriage cases across 20 districts by 2024, as per India Child Protection. With 31.8% of women aged 20–24 in Assam married before 18 (above the national average), the state's strategy is now seen as a national example for addressing this social issue.
