Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has blamed the state’s rising prices on historical political mistakes, specifically India’s failure to secure land around the Chicken’s Neck corridor after the 1971 war. Speaking at the Northeast Investment Summit in Delhi, he highlighted Assam's logistical challenges and urged policy support. Sarma also criticized Bangladesh's recurring threats over the strategic Siliguri Corridor and highlighted its own geographic vulnerabilities. Referring to narrow corridors within Bangladesh, he warned of their potential isolation. Earlier, Sarma termed the creation of Bangladesh a missed opportunity, blaming weak leadership under Indira Gandhi in 1971.
