Kami Rita, a 55-year-old Nepali Sherpa guide known as the “Everest Man,” has broken his own world record by summiting Mount Everest for the 31st time. He reached the 8,849-metre peak on Tuesday via the southeast ridge route while guiding a 22-member Indian army team and 27 Sherpas. Rita first climbed Everest in 1994 and has scaled it nearly every year since. Though modest about his record, he expressed pride in promoting Nepal globally. Pasang Dawa, another Sherpa, holds the second-highest number of ascents at 29. Officials praised Rita’s achievement for elevating Nepal’s mountaineering reputation worldwide.
