A political controversy has erupted in Assam after Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi admitted visiting Pakistan in 2013 for his wife’s professional work. Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma accused Gogoi of deeper ties with Pakistan and promised to reveal findings from a Special Investigation Team (SIT) on September 10. Gogoi denied wrongdoing, questioning the timing and motives behind the allegations, and criticized the CM’s political agenda ahead of elections. The Assam government reiterated its commitment to transparency, pledging to release the SIT report publicly. Gogoi maintains the accusations are politically motivated attempts to tarnish his reputation.
