The Union Cabinet, led by PM Narendra Modi, approved a ₹69 per quintal hike in the minimum support price (MSP) for paddy for the Kharif 2025–26 season, raising it to ₹2,369 for common and ₹2,389 for Grade A paddy. MSPs for 13 other Kharif crops were also increased, with Nigerseed seeing the highest rise of ₹820 per quintal. The move aims to boost farmers' incomes and promote crop diversification. Margins over production costs are highest for bajra (63%), maize (59%), and tur (59%). Paddy procurement has significantly increased, reaching 7,608 lakh tonnes worth ₹14.16 trillion in the past decade.
