Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma clarified that the state’s arms licence policy will not apply to inter-state border areas shared with Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, and Nagaland. Addressing public concerns, he emphasized that Assam treats inter-state border issues through dialogue, cooperation, and mutual trust, rather than as national security threats. Sarma stated on X that these border regions are not considered vulnerable and should be resolved peacefully. The government reiterated that these areas are exempt from the arms licencing norms, aligning with Assam’s long-standing policy of resolving boundary matters through understanding and negotiation.
